RSPB Croydon Local Group - Survey form

The bird survey covers all areas of Croydon - gardens and open spaces and we would like to include information from any regularly watched site. If you would like to take part in the survey you will find a printable copy of the form (in Adobe PDF format) and a spreadsheet (in Microsoft Excel 97 format) version by clicking on the icons at the bottom of this page.

Some basic instructions for completion of the Survey Sheet

  • Please use a separate form for each site surveyed and please don't worry if you only want to tick birds seen, we can still use this data.
  • If you are using the form to survey your own garden then you only need to fill in 'GARDEN' as the location as your address should be at the foot of the form.

When completing the form please bear in mind the following -

  • An estimate of the number of birds/territories for each species would be appreciated, but it is not essential.
  • If you can give approximate monthly maximum counts for those species marked with an *, please do so. This will help us monitor them more accurately.
  • For more unusual species a note of number, sex and exact date would be of value.
  • We would also like to know if any specific predatory/aggressive action is seen, with a note of the species involved (that includes cats, foxes, squirrels, etc. as well as birds).

NB. The monthly maximum counts should be an approximation of the greatest number of birds seen in the garden/open space at any one time during the month. We do not want cumulative BIRD/DAY totals or the number of different occasions on which the birds were seen.

Monitoring of open spaces

We are always interested in receiving information from any park, wood, golf course or other open space in Croydon that you may go to even if it is only a one-off visit. While we would prefer the records to be submitted on the proper forms (one for each site) a list on a sheet of paper or e-mail will do, so long as we can identify which month(s) the records relate to for each species.
